New Delhi . About 15.9 lakh new demat accounts, required to hold shares in electronic format, were opened with the two depositories, CDSL and NSDL, taking the total number of demat accounts to 11.60 crore in April. New demat accounts opened in April were 23 per cent lower than FY23's monthly average of 20.7 lakh. Nifty rallied 4.1 per cent in April to emerge as the best performer among key global equity market benchmarks on the back of inflows from foreign portfolio investors and encouraging January-March quarter results.
