The Palamau Tiger Reserve is the only one in the Indian state of Jharkhand and one of the original nine tiger reserves in India. The biodiversity of the Palamau Tiger Reserve is crucial. Bamboo groves, mixed deciduous woods, and sal forests make up the majority of the project area. Three significant rivers, the Koel, Burha, and Auranga, have their watersheds in the reserve zone.
